Queen & King: Each is Growing a Devil Within. It Takes One Devil to Punish Another by Nandini Gupta | Book review

Book review:

What a woman aspires a loving family, a caring husband , a place which she can say as home and a little more. But what if a little girl is abandoned by her mother at a tender age and is barred to face the difficulties and hurdles of a woman. The book captures the journey of two such people who had miserable childhood and that created a hidden demon inside them that could erupt at any point if touched.   It explores how they met, how their love blossomed, and how they set a beautiful example of love and respect in an orthodox societal environment. But nothing remains forever

The story revolves around the characters Avanti and Dhairya who are living their married life with lots of issues. A new hope of living a married life bit more when Avanti gets pregnant. Her life is moving smoothly until the birth of her son. Avanti has to play a new role of a mother, wife and a woman itself. This major transition in the viscious cycle of societal norms evokes a journey of so many changes and turmoils.

She refuses to let Dhairya's changed behaviour jeopardize the well-being of their baby. As conflicts arise and tensions escalate, Avanti faces a profound internal struggle. How far is she willing to go to shield her child from the storm brewing around them? And what sacrifices is she prepared to make?

The author attempts to portray that poor or rich, the plight of women tend to remain the same everywhere. Her sole intention to predict the malicious practice of patriarchy and gender discrimination has reached so deep into the skin of the society and mixed with its blood that none can avoid, deny or ignore it, no matter how hard they strive. Though she has tried to predict the negative impact of ill customs or practices on society or people in an outstanding way but i didnt like one thing that how come a couple living together are unaware of demons or past of each other for so long.

Overall," Queen & King" is a compelling and poignant novel that  paints a realistic picture of the challenges faced by individuals trapped in cycles of poverty and societal constraints. Do grab this book for a rollercoaster ride of emotions and intensity of a woman to save her child.
