When the Moon Burned White by Mohan K. Thangaraju

When the Moon Burned White by Mohan K. Thangaraju

"When the Moon Burnt White" is an intriguing story that makes the reader dive into situations that change your perception of perceiving things. It helps the reader to undergo emotional turmoils with ease and face the power of love and self-discovery.

The book pulls you straight into the dangerous world of the Golden Triangle. Here, Kathir is just an ordinary chemical engineer living in Thailand. He gets trapped in the brutal heroin trade.

That incident turns his whole life upside down. From then onwards, it becomes a struggle for survival, but when he meets Sanda, it reminds him of his past love. I was curious to know how they stake their lives for survival. Their inner guilt, memories and fear of losing loved ones is palpable.

The writing makes you feel like you’re walking every risky step with Kathir, constantly wondering how he’ll escape the mess he’s fallen into. What makes this story hit hard is how raw and real everything feels.

The author narrates the story that feels achingly real and raw.  The emotional depth of the characters draws you in,relationships and understanding the struggles faced by an ordinary person. It mirrors the complexities of human relationships, and how one could face the hardships without losing faith in oneself and loved ones.

Overall, this is a compelling and enjoyable thriller. It's an exciting read with a twist.

Vayam: Vayam Rakshamah: We Protect by Acharya Chatursen

Vayam: Vayam Rakshamah: We Protect by Acharya Chatursen | Book Review

It is a different perspective of the great Indian epic Ramayana. The king of Lanka, Ravana, is portrayed as a hero who has an ambitious plan to unite different contemporary clans.

Writing a mythological book without distorting the facts and overcoming prejudices that have firmly conditioned the mind is extremely challenging. The Ramayana, a great Indian epic, is the basis for this adaptation. In his book, Acharya Chatursen attempts to reimagine the great epic and write it from the point of view of Ravana, the protagonist.

Ravana is the Brahman-Rakshasa Kumara. His maternal grandfather taught him to hate the Devas and take vengeance on them for establishing and expanding their power at the expense of Rakshasas and other Varnas. He is a brave warrior with extensive Vedic knowledge and education. Along with his band of Rakshasas, he established his empire across the populated earth, defeating Deva, Danava, Gandharva, etc., and making the defeated accept his Raksh-Sanskriti.

Acharya Chatursen could do it because he was so well-read and was far above any racial prejudices. How Acharya Chatursen has connected history, geography, philosophy and mythology to give it the form of a saga is extraordinary!

While reading this book, there were times when I felt like a simpleton because I couldn't fathom how someone so wise, profound, and all-knowing could have made it into a book. I'll always be in awe of the author, and reading this book will definitely be one of the most humbling experiences for me.

Although the Hindi used is sometimes difficult to understand, I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the Ramayana or the story of Ravana. Just too good!

101 Zen Tales: Inspiring Stories of Wisdom and Enlightenment by Nyogen Senzaki

101 Zen Tales: Inspiring Stories of Wisdom and Enlightenment by Nyogen Senzaki | Book Review

Zen tales are a unique and powerful form of storytelling that originated in the Zen Buddhist tradition. Its origin can be traced to ancient China. Over time, these tales spread throughout East Asia.

The use of paradox and humour in Zen tales is one of their most distinctive characteristics. The significance of recognising the fundamental unity of all things and seeing beyond what appears on the surface is emphasised in many of these stories. In this book, the readers will discover 101 famous Zen tales of all time that will ignite their souls with enlightenment.

Another principal theme in Zen tales is the idea of non-dualism, which is the belief that all things are interconnected and interdependent. Many of these stories emphasise the importance of seeing beyond surface appearances and recognising the fundamental unity of all things.

Overall, Zen tales are a powerful tool for spiritual and philosophical exploration and offer valuable insights into the nature of reality and the human experience. People from all over the world are challenged and inspired by the Zen stories, whether they are read as a source of entertainment or as a guide to spiritual development.

Although these stories frequently puzzle you and may seem absurd, if you think about them for yourself, you might become wiser and more aware of yourself. The anecdotes are collected in this book. Highly recommended for youngsters and teenagers because it's still current and simple to read.

X Saves the World: How Generation X Got the Shaft but Can Still Keep Everything from Sucking by Jeff Gordinier

X Saves the World: How Generation X Got the Shaft but Can Still Keep Everything from Sucking by Jeff Gordinier | Book Review

X Saves the World

A very short read that does what you would expect: talks about the good things about being a member of Generation X, explains some of the contributions we've made to culture and society, and briefly discusses how we can continue to have an impact now that we've been eclipsed by the millennials in the media. Reading more like a long essay, Gordinier fills his writing with pop references and important Gen X'ers in the world of technology and business.

HOWEVER... for a person of a certain age, this book is awesome. I loved it from the beginning to the end. I loved and laughed my ass off at the criticism of the Boomer generation, particularly in the first section of the book, as someone who has witnessed those around me embody the worst traits of the Boomer generation—self-indulgence, lack of planning, and expectation that someone will always save them.

When going down my list of transgressions of that particular generation, Gordinier's list of gripes and sarcastic swipes hit my checklist one by one. I thought it was spot-on, hilarious and cynical – much like I would like to think all of us Gen-Xers are.

We have inherited the fallout of their choices, grappling with the consequences while trying to carve out our own identities in a world that often seems indifferent. Yet, amid the sarcasm and critique, there lies a glimmer of hope; perhaps we can learn from their missteps and forge a more sustainable path forward.

I interpreted this as novel research. It is written in a truly outstanding manner. Its premise seems to me true for some part of the generation--no generation is any one thing. -

Kash Mir's Travels in India by Deepak Rana

Kash Mir's Travels in India by Deepak Rana | Book Review

Kash Mir's Travels in India

"Kash Mir's Travels in India" is a one-of-a-kind and entertaining journey through the very different landscapes of India. It is a memoir of the character Kashif Mir's time spent travelling India, coincidentally during his gap year following college.

Throughout his adventures, Kashif encounters a rich tapestry of cultures, meets fascinating people, and savours the diverse culinary delights that the country has to offer. Each chapter unfolds a new experience, highlighting both the beauty and challenges of exploring this vibrant nation.

The book is light and entertaining, and will make you laugh every few minutes. I would recommend it to every Indian because it discusses a lot of social issues and is very relatable. For the first time, a book shows all of our everyday quirks and mannerisms in its content, capturing the essence of Indian society.

The path Kashif took to become a literary superstar is anything but ordinary. He muddles through events that were taken out of the news but are retold from his unique, frequently distorted perspective. The book cleverly dissects the issues that are influencing India today through satire, such as communal tensions, media mania, and the general madness of contemporary conversation.

Quotes from the book that piqued me:
🌸"lesson: If a writer tries and a reader follows, together, they can make sense out of anything they come across. So, let’s take a step forward.

🌸"How did I become a liar? As far as I can remember, it started out as a result of my undealt insecurities."

The author cleverly weaponises humour. It's not just cheap fun; it's a way to look at the complexities of modern India, like the tensions between Hindus and Muslims, the media circus, and dreams vs. reality. It's satire served with a side of samosas, and it's delicious.

The simplicity of this book is what makes it beautiful. It's more than just a list of tourist attractions and landmarks. Instead, the author weaves a compelling story around their own personal reflections and real-life experiences to draw you in.

The author is skilled at conveying the essence of each location and creating vivid images with their words. With each turn of the page, readers are transported not only through diverse landscapes but also into the intricate tapestry of human emotions that accompany such journeys. It is this blend of observation and introspection that leaves a lasting impression, encouraging us to reflect on our own adventures and the stories we carry within us.

Overall, this book is a travelogue that is both engaging and inspiring. It ignites wanderlust, making readers feel like they're experiencing India firsthand through authentic storytelling. It is a book that travel enthusiasts should read.

When I Hear 'Shakespeare' by Laleeta Tongo

When I Hear 'Shakespeare' by Laleeta Tongo | Book Review

When I Hear 'Shakespeare' by Laleeta Tongo

"When I Hear 'Shakespeare'" by Laleeta Tongo is a collection of magical poems filled with raw emotions and comforting vibes. As the title suggests, this book is a celebration of the works of legendary poets of all generations – Shakespeare.

Every poem is full of real feelings, and the poet has shown how she came to love English literature and how deeply she felt after reading Shakespeare's works as a child. The poetess's lifelong love and admiration for William Shakespeare, one of literature's greatest icons, can be seen in this collection of poems.

She, like many readers, values the weight of Shakespeare's verses, which forever embrace people and immortalise them. The cover design is simple and effectively conveys the essence of the book. However, I feel that a little more effort could have gone into its design, especially since the pages inside are absolutely stunning and beautifully crafted!

The poems combine raw emotions with lyrical poetry. The poet's love for Shakespeare and English literature is expressed in the poems. I loved how the author linked Shakespeare's phrases to her poems. Even though all of the poems are good, some of my favourites were "Questioning Shakespeare", "Writer's Journey", "Remembering Her in Shakespeare's Words", "Metamorphosis", and "Not Digitally, But Really Yours".

Overall, "When I Hear 'Shakespeare" is a collection of deeply meaningful poetry that will stay with you for a long time.

Unlock the Power of Derivatives: A Practical Guide to Trading Futures and Options in the Indian Market by Apurva Parikh

Unlock the Power of Derivatives: A Practical Guide to Trading Futures and Options in the Indian Market by Apurva Parikh | Book Review

Unlock the power of derivatives

Unlock the Power of Derivatives aims to make futures and options trading in the Indian stock market more understandable to traders of all levels. For the first time, it simplified complex concepts into understandable language, allowing me to truly understand how derivatives function, especially in the Indian context.

The case studies and real-world examples stood out. They got everything to work. That made all the difference because I could see how strategies like hedging and arbitrage actually work in the market. Apurva's explanations are concrete and not theoretical jargon, and his delivery is conversational while being extremely instructive.

Beginning with the fundamentals of derivatives and gradually moving on to more advanced trading strategies, the book takes a step-by-step approach. It covers important topics like the pricing of futures and options, risk management, and how to use tools and platforms that are common in India in the real world. More importantly, it places an emphasis on practical learning, ensuring that readers will be able to confidently apply these ideas in real markets.

Parikh is skilled at dispelling the complexities of these financial instruments and laying the groundwork for an understanding of their advantages and disadvantages. By breaking down intricate concepts into manageable segments, he enables both novices and seasoned traders to grasp the nuances of market behaviour.

This approach not only fosters a deeper comprehension but also encourages informed decision-making in a constantly evolving financial landscape. The case studies and real-world scenarios enrich the explanation process and make it applicable to real-world trading situations. However, the book's primary strength is its emphasis on risk management's practical application.

For new investors as well as seasoned traders, "Unlock the Power of Derivatives" is an excellent read. As you trade in the exciting, sometimes chaotic, world of derivatives trading, this book will give you the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions.

Echoes of Loss and Longing Through Verses: A Look into Whispers of the Blue Ghost by Pratikshya Panda

Echoes of Loss and Longing Through Verses: A Look into Whispers of the Blue Ghost by Pratikshya Panda

In Whispers of the Blue Ghost, Pratikshya Panda invites readers to step quietly into a landscape shaped by memory, longing, and the ever-shifting contours of loss. This evocative poetry collection is not a loud lamentation of grief, but rather a soft, persistent whisper—an intimate exploration of what it means to hold on to the past while learning to let go.

At the heart of each poem in this book lies a delicate balance between simplicity and emotional depth. Pratikshya’s poems do not overwhelm with complex language or abstract metaphors. Instead, they whisper truths with a gentleness that lingers long after the final poem has been read. There’s an amount of restraint that allows each image—whether it be water, bone, star, or shadow—to resonate deeply, creating an atmosphere where the reader can feel both grounded and suspended, real and dreamlike.

The recurring imagery of nature in Whispers of the Blue Ghost—especially water—serves as a powerful metaphor for grief and memory. Like the sea, grief is constant yet ever-changing; it recedes and returns, transforms and persists. Pratikshya’s use of water reflects the fluidity of memory, how moments can drift in and out of consciousness, and how some memories, like tide-worn stones, smooth out over time while others remain jagged.

There’s a palpable sense of absence woven into these poems, yet it’s not hollow. Pratikshya’s language captures the presence that lingers even in loss. Her exploration of identity through the lens of loss suggests that who we are is often shaped by what we’ve had to let go of. The self becomes a patchwork of what once was, stitched together with longing and remembrance.

In many ways, Whispers of the Blue Ghost reads like a quiet dialogue between the poet and her ghosts—not just literal ones, but the spectral presences of memories, former selves, and forgotten moments. These poems don’t seek resolution. Instead, they offer companionship in uncertainty, beauty in fragmentation, and meaning in the ephemeral.

What sets this collection apart is its ability to evoke a universal emotional truth through deeply personal expression. Readers may not share the exact experiences described in this collection, but they will definitely recognize the ache of loss, the complexity of remembrance, and the quiet resilience it takes to carry fragments of the past forward.

Whispers of the Blue Ghost is a poetic journey through the in-between spaces—the liminal world of what once was and what is becoming. It’s a book for anyone who has ever grieved, remembered, or searched for meaning in the lingering presence of absence. Through her tender and evocative verse, Pratikshya Panda gives shape to the intangible and voice to the unspeakable, crafting a collection that stays with you like a half-remembered dream.

Dragonflies by Supriya Parulekar

Dragonflies by Supriya Parulekar | Book Review

Dragonflies by Supriya Parulekar

Supriya Parulekar creates a visceral, emotionally charged narrative in "Dragonflies" that offers much more than a typical thriller. What begins as a suspenseful investigation into the glamorous life of a Bollywood superstar gradually transforms into a psychological investigation into trauma, identity, and the desperate attempt at healing.

The main character, Sonya Rana, is a superstar in Bollywood who leads a glamorous life of beauty, wealth, fame, and public success. She, on the other hand, lives an entirely different life in real life. Sonya meets with her therapist about her disturbing nightmares, or perhaps we could call them disturbing childhood memories, at the beginning of the story.

Tania, the stepsister, arrives, and she is about as helpful as a broken umbrella during a storm. But hey, what’s family for if not to add extra chaos to your already deteriorating life? Sonya's life is spiralling out of control faster than a Bollywood dance number on caffeine, and all she wants is some peace of mind (and possibly a dramatic transformation sequence featuring slow-motion hair flips). Instead of loops and thrills, this book plunges you into a deep, dark abyss of existential dread, shadowy pasts, and soul-sucking demons.

It is the rollercoaster ride of all rollercoasters. By the end, you'll be questioning whether or not you have any demons hiding in your own closet—don't worry, we all do—and the suspense is thicker and more intense than a Bollywood plot twist. The story sheds a haunting light on issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and thoughts of suicide.

The writer does not gloss over Sonya's mental illness or romanticise her suffering. Instead, she allows it to unfold with honesty and discomfort, evoking empathy and introspection. The trauma is more than just a plot point; it is the heart, the driving force behind Sonya's downfall and eventual redemption.

Fame is presented as a pedestal and a prison at the same time. Sonya’s glamorous public image becomes a mask that she’s increasingly unable to hold. A harrowing but insightful read is provided by the contrast between internal disintegration and perception from the outside.

A quote from the book that piqued me:

💓"Sonya heard Tania’s voice in her head. “See, doing things your way does not harm you. Learn to say ‘no.’

Readers are drawn into the complexities of Sonya's mind thanks to the engaging and immersive narrative. The plot is enhanced by the thoughtful creation of each character. In addition, the book delves into the intricate nature of human relationships, looking at how they can both be a support system and a cause of conflict.

Tania, Sonya's stepsister, is at the centre of her struggle. She is her unwavering anchor in her life and gives her the emotional support she so desperately needs. However, Tania's presence also brings forth feelings of jealousy and resentment, as Sonya grapples with her insecurities. This duality in their relationship adds depth to the story, highlighting the complexities of familial bonds that can be both nurturing and tumultuous.

In conclusion, it is a meditation on pain, healing, and identity as well as a psychological thriller. It discusses mental fragility, the weight of unhealed wounds, and the courage required to confront internal shadows. The author doesn't tell us a clean story with a happy ending; rather, she tells us a story about a woman's turbulent journey through madness, memory, and, in the end, self-repair.

Sheroes Amongst Us by Falguni Jain, Dr Amit Nagpal | Book Review

Sheroes Amongst Us by Falguni Jain, Dr Amit Nagpal

"Sheroes Amongst Us" is a powerful and evocative collection of 32 stories that calls the reader to awaken the shero within us. It is a testament to this eternal strength, real women, and real stories that redefine success, break barriers, and illuminate the path for generations.

This book is about stories of extraordinary ladies who have broken through family, societal, self-imposed or corporate boundaries to become successful leaders. It does not leave out the personal from the professional or the childhood from the current maturity of an industry leader, but gives a rich overview.

Each story revealed unique challenges, triumphs, and lessons that not only deepened my understanding of resilience and determination but also broadened my perspective. Their journeys, while different at a personal level, teach us invaluable lessons about overcoming challenges and building fulfilling lives.

I was inspired by the story of Dr Mita Dixit. She received her education in a Gujarati medium school, while English was a second language. Her life is a testament to the power of perseverance, curiosity, and a commitment to growth. As a family business advisor, she stresses the importance of professionalism and governance in today's VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world.

The authors have carefully curated stories built on grit, transformation and dreams. These stories not only bring to light the accomplishments of these incredible women but also the paths that they have traversed to reach where they are today. Each story serves as an inspiration for aspiring women leaders of tomorrow to learn from their journeys.

Overall, this book captures the incredible journeys of women who turned challenges into opportunities, proving that determination and courage can lead to extraordinary achievements. Their stories give insights to inspire and guide the younger generation.

Rhyming with Life by Neelam Saxena Chandra

Rhyming with Life by Neelam Saxena Chandra | Book Review

Rhyming with Life by Neelam Saxena Chandra

Rhyming with Life is a spellbinding collection of poetry by Neelam Saxena Chandra that delves into the vast range of human emotions, experiences, and philosophical aspects of life. With its simplicity and emotional depth, this beautifully crafted literary work offers profound insights and captivates readers.

The author has created a collection that deeply resonates with readers seeking comfort, reflection, and inspiration by successfully combining moving themes with evocative language. Through relatable themes like love, hope, pain, and resilience, the poetry expertly conveys the complexity of human emotions. Each poem tells its story while contributing to the overarching theme of self-reflection and emotional growth.

A few sonnets that piqued me:
💗 "Every failure is a lesson learnt. I am wiser. However, the tramp in me has to keep wandering. I see a bridge again. I hear the harmonics again. Some restraining sounds. Some other welcoming voices."

Each failure teaches us a lesson. It serves as a reminder of our shortcomings and helps usserves as a reminder of our shortcomings and helps us recreate a bridge towards our goals. It boosts our energy to work with more enthusiasm and work harder.

💗"Silence is a virgin mountain Rarely visited by humans, For it’s impossible to Discover the paths Leading to its peak- And a man is but a conqueror!"

A person can never cross the mountains of silence that are rarely visited to unfurl the real reason. It is impossible to discover the path that leads to the peak of silence but still, man is a conqueror.

💗"Eyes are wet due to departures, And yet, this optimism in my veins Keeps flowing with my blood, Rejuvenating every time, it passes through The chambers of my heart! Maybe, days will change for me too!"

So true. Our hearts are filled with hope that the closed ones who departed will return one day. Our heart blossoms with positivity to attain what is yet to come.

The poetry eloquently captures the serenity of rain, the size of lagoons, and the quiet feelings that frequently have more profound significance than words. Ahimsa philosophy gives the work a contemplative depth, while war and its effects are examined with subdued passion. The poet clearly adores Mother India by combining personal feelings with national consciousness.

Overall, this collection is more than just a reading experience; it's also a journey into one's own mind that connects thought and feeling. It is a deeply evocative and rewarding read because it invites readers to pause, reflect, and immerse themselves in the delicate balance between despair and hope.

Just Words - A Collection of Poems by Dhansingh Thakur

Just Words - A Collection of Poems by Dhansingh Thakur | Book Review

Just Words

"Just Words" by Dhansingh Thakur is not just poetry. Dhansingh Thakur encapsulates resilience, raw reality, and reflection in his poetry. Each poem reads like a personal conversation: sometimes gentle, sometimes stern, but always honest.

Every poem in this book, written by the author, has genuine resonance, addressing topics as diverse as love and nostalgia to struggle and self-discovery. Yearnings and reunion stir deep emotions, reminding us of lost moments and cherished bonds.

Through vivid imagery and poignant language, Thakur invites readers to explore their own experiences and emotions, creating a shared space of understanding and empathy. His ability to weave complex themes into accessible verses makes "Just Words" a profound journey for anyone seeking solace or inspiration in the written word.

The poet’s ability to craft simple yet evocative verses in the book ensures that each poem speaks directly to the reader personally. Some poems soothe like a warm embrace, while others challenge perspectives and evoke deep thought.

Each piece resonates with the nuances of human experience, inviting readers to reflect on their own lives and emotions. Ultimately, "Just Words" serves as a reminder of the power of poetry to connect us, bridging gaps between diverse experiences and fostering a sense of community through shared understanding.

A few verses that piqued me:
💦"Senses may fail and instincts flounder.
      Everywhere fear and darkness permeates.
Education and knowledge are but tricky aides,
      Tis only wisdom which illuminates."

💦 "Tonight is tryst with high and vain,
The howling wind and the pouring rain.
Gust after gust, torrent after torrent,
Drag and jolt the shuddering tent.
Unable to discern this furious squall,
       Fearful eyes struggle for survival."

💦 "Drains away all your zest for life,
World’s nothing but an endless strife.
When dreams take flight or fall,
       Against all odds, stand tall.
      Seek your true destiny,
      smiling boldly as ever,
It’s a beautiful life, my dear.
      Never say never."

The language is lyrical yet accessible, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the emotions behind each verse. Whether you’re looking for inspiration, solace, or a fresh perspective on life, this book delivers an unforgettable poetic experience.

This collection of poems written by the author in the book is a celebration of words, emotions, and the human experience, a must-read for poetry lovers everywhere.

Each poem carries a more profound meaning, but what makes these works even more accessible and relatable is the poet's simple yet meaningful writing style. I highly recommend this book, whether you’re a poetry lover or a beginner to the genre.

Odyssey of Daze by Mayank Kashyap

Odyssey of Daze by Mayank Kashyap | Book Review

Odyssey of Daze by Mayank Kashyap

Odyssey of Daze weaves a compelling story that combines reflective dialogue with vivid descriptions. It tackles difficult subjects with bravery and raw honesty, demonstrating its emotional depth. Its thought-provoking messages encourage reflection on forgiveness, family, and self-destruction.

This book avoids providing clear solutions by instead providing moments of introspection. The author employs poetic language that occasionally appears erratic but occasionally delivers powerful statements. The text was created to reach people who understand the perplexing experience of thinking without clear direction on life’s path.

With a strong emotional pull that keeps the reader invested, the writing is engaging. Kashyap captures human vulnerability with skill, giving the characters an authentic and relatable quality. However, particularly Rishi's entry into the police force, the book's second half feels somewhat rushed. Certain emotional arcs, like his romance with Sakshi, could have been explored with more depth.

Despite these minor flaws, Odyssey of Daze is a powerful and gripping read. It has an impact that lasts a long time, making it a great choice for readers who like contemporary fiction about family, perseverance, and second chances.
