The Other Man - Love, Loathing and Murders by Ajaybir Singh Garkal | Book review

Book review:

"The Other Man" is a riveting mystery-thriller that intricately weaves together themes of love, animosity, deceit, and treachery. It takes readers on an exhilarating journey from beginning to end. Notably, the vibrant setting of Rajasthan serves as an alluring and exotic backdrop, enhancing the overall reading experience.

Centred around a journalist who stumbles upon a plot of a military coup orchestrated by the former army chief, General Jogmer, the story delves into the ambitions of a right-wing party with an aggressive Hindutva agenda, poised to contest in elections and seize power. As events unfold, Frankie, the young journalist, is tasked with covering the inaugural Jogmer festival in the historically significant town of Jogmer. There, he becomes acquainted with his cousin Kevin Sullivan and witnesses the enduring companionship between the Jogmers and Sullivans, an association spanning two centuries, almost like a miraculous tale.

The narrative leads readers through Rajasthan, where the General's sons find themselves entangled in a film festival, a film shoot, and two enigmatic murders. Packed with twists and turns, the plot maintains an irresistible grip on the reader's attention until the final revelation. Against the backdrop of the Jogmer festival, numerous prominent figures gather at Jogmer Palace to partake in the hospitality of the retired General Prithvi Jogmer and his family. However, the situation takes an unforeseen turn when two scandalous murders occur, one near the palace gates and another within its walls, leaving everyone present as potential suspects.

Amidst the suspense and intrigue, the book intricately crafts a multi-layered plot, interwoven with well-developed characters whose growth parallels the progression of the storyline. Despite the simultaneous unfolding of multiple plots, the narrative maintains a steady pace, allowing each thread to fully develop. The character sketches are diverse, authentic, and relatable, contributing significantly to the book's immersive nature.

Skillfully penned and compelling, 'The Other Man' skillfully navigates a complex plot, delving into themes of power, corruption, loyalty, and love. With a well-balanced infusion of humour and romance, the book juxtaposes its darker undertones, creating an engaging and multifaceted reading experience. A must-read for enthusiasts of crime fiction and political thrillers, 'The Other Man' promises to captivate, challenge, and immerse readers in a thrilling and thought-provoking adventure.

Taming the Turbulent Mind: Yogic Meditation and Mindfulness by Deekay

Taming the Turbulent Mind: Yogic Meditation and Mindfulness for Combating Overthinking, Achieving Stress Relief, and Attaining Absolute Peace  Deekay | Book Review What is turbulence? Any thoughts, or have you ever tried to tame any animal? I remember watching circus shows organised once a year in the city's open area for all the locals to enjoy. There I used to cherish the person who tamed the elephants or the lion (if any). But today I thought of taming my mind. Every second our thoughts are randomly moving and giving us goosebumps. Nowadays people have so many threads of work looming in their minds that they feel like completing but fail to prioritise. To dive into a river is not easy. But only a few people have the calibre to do that. The same is true with diving in your mind. This practice needs calmness of mind and anxiety levels to be very low. I had heard about meditation and its techniques to apply in your daily routine, but when I stumbled upon this book, my myths w...

My journey of motherhood| Tips for mothers with ASD children

My Journey of Motherhood: To date, I remember how I was rushed to the hospital as I was feeling uneasy and could not feel any movement inside the womb. I got hospitalized in an emergency and tests were conducted. I was on a regular checkup by the doctors every hour and after some time I was advised not to eat or drink after this hour. I was too dumb to understand the situation. In the morning, when I woke up the doctor who was handling my case came to check me and bombarded me when I mentioned that I drank a glass of water. His anger had no limits and he scolded the staff for not supervising me properly. In a fraction of a second, a decision was made. I was prepared for my c-section. But I was not mentally prepared for it, I started making lame excuses but to no avail. At last, I was taken in the OT and the process started. I was only able to hear the idle banter of doctors and nurses inside. After some time I heard the first cry of my child and I forgot all my pains. The doctor ...
