Book review:
"Oblivion Express" is a brilliant assortment of brief tales created by Amit Patil that transports readers to the clamoring roads and energetic embroidery of life in India. Every story is an endearing story that catches the essence of Indian culture and individuals in a manner that feels both true and contacting.
The stories are populated with very well-created characters who explore interesting circumstances, inspiring a scope of feelings that add profundity to every story. Subjects of affection, strength, and the human soul are intertwined all through the narratives, mirroring the common encounters that tight spot all of us. Every story has an enduring effect, empowering readers to ponder their lives and the general insights that interface us.
In the story "Have a Good One," the author makes you feel the struggles of a single mother who was betrayed by her husband and left alone to raise her single child. The mother never gives up on feeding her son and does varied odd jobs to make her son study in top colleges and be sponsored in one of the best colleges in other countries. But will she be accepted the same way after she leaves her job or thinks of even visiting her son after a long time? How will a mother react to the needs of a son?
In the story "Mumbai 26/7," initially I felt that the story was somehow related to the Mumbai attacks. But after reading a few lines, I realized that it was a story of self-discovery and realization of the real truth of life, irrespective of your financial status. In the story, the author introduces two characters, Harsh and Manoj, who are struggling from their own positions. Harsh is a rich lad who gets everything at his disposal, while Manoj is a middle-class working person who merely has one BHK flat.
It was interesting to read how circumstances have brought them together to board a train on a railway platform. Heavy rains have disrupted the flow of trains, and normal going trains are paused. Both of them get to know about each other's identities after interacting with each other for some time, and they need to walk together a long distance on foot, fully immersed in water. That day they both learned a lesson never forgotten by both, and it changed their lives forever.
The tales are fresh and brief, going from every one of the circles of life. They have humor, feelings, love, and a rush for the readers. It was truly fun reading the book, where it felt that everything happened simply before my eyes. My number one story was a homicide secret, which was an unforeseen one amid these accounts. Amit Patil's composing felt so genuine and drawing in that I completed the book soon.
The author has well portrayed the lives of people in a few snippets and depicted the life and taught many life lessons. His adroit manner of depicting life's reality in these tales is praiseworthy.
Overall, it is a thoughtful short story collection that is worth reading. Highly recommended!
