How Hyderabad was freed from the oppressive rule of the Nizam and Razakars?

Operation Polo: Integration of Hyderabad in India by Sardar Patel | How Hyderabad was freed from the oppressive rule of the Nizam and Razakars by Prachi Garg

Operation Polo

Book review:

Operation Polo by Prachi Garg is a refreshing retelling of India’s annexation of Hyderabad. This retelling utilizes a historical basis attached to fiction in order to explain the complexities surrounding this feat.

In the book the author goes into a lot of detail when discussing the Indian Government’s perspective on the integration of Hyderabad. It is very effective in underlining the role of the state, the menace of the Razakars and the overall framework of Indianization exercise. The author also covers the various responses of the international community with regard to Operation Polo. Although, the United Nations condemned India’s action, the operation was backed by United States and Soviet Union primarily because of Cold War circumstances.

The book focuses on how Sardar Patel, India’s first Vice-President and Home Minister, effectively integrated the imperial state of Hyderabad into the Union of India. At that time, Hyderabad was ruled by the Nizam, who wanted to join Pakistan despite the Hindu majority in the country. This brought oppression and distress to the locals, who were oppressed by the Nizam's army and royalty.Garg's story is fascinating and detailed, Sardar Patel's decisive action in the book offers insights into the political, diplomatic and military tactics used during this period, known as " Operation Polo".

Prachi's writing style is clear and concise. She offers readers a chronicle history enriched by historical analysis and shedding light on motivations standing behind the events. She explains all the issues, which are actually quite intricate, in plain language making the book easy to comprehend. That aspect is well done by the author who takes the reader through politics, social setup, and economy within which the book’s events took place in Hyderabad.

Highly recommended!

Taming the Turbulent Mind: Yogic Meditation and Mindfulness by Deekay

Taming the Turbulent Mind: Yogic Meditation and Mindfulness for Combating Overthinking, Achieving Stress Relief, and Attaining Absolute Peace  Deekay | Book Review What is turbulence? Any thoughts, or have you ever tried to tame any animal? I remember watching circus shows organised once a year in the city's open area for all the locals to enjoy. There I used to cherish the person who tamed the elephants or the lion (if any). But today I thought of taming my mind. Every second our thoughts are randomly moving and giving us goosebumps. Nowadays people have so many threads of work looming in their minds that they feel like completing but fail to prioritise. To dive into a river is not easy. But only a few people have the calibre to do that. The same is true with diving in your mind. This practice needs calmness of mind and anxiety levels to be very low. I had heard about meditation and its techniques to apply in your daily routine, but when I stumbled upon this book, my myths w...

Nectar on the Seven Hills - The Pure Seed - An Epic Fusion of Indian Mythology | Fantasy Adventure by Prabhu Ram | Book Review The first book in the trilogy by Prabhu Ram, " Nectar on the Seven Hills: The Pure Seed," is a gripping fantasy adventure that skillfully combines Indian mythology, historical elements, and high-stakes action. The focus on details, particularly in explaining the settings, the psychology and emotions of the characters, and the description of events, is truly commendable.  As they navigate the labyrinth of towering trees and hidden trails, the siblings grapple with their mounting fears and the weight of their responsibility to protect one another. Each rustle of leaves and distant ...

The Psychology of Marketing: How Marketers Trick Us Into Buying More by Harinder Singh Pelia | Book Review Marketing is such an in-depth concept that it always transitions according to consumer preferences. The extent to which marketers go to sell their products will blow our minds away, as money comes first rather than people's needs. Even the bare detail that hints at our desires is manoeuvred to boost sales figures, often overshadowing the genuine connection between a brand and its audience. This relentless pursuit of profit can lead to practices that prioritise persuasive tactics over transparency, leaving consumers feeling manipulated rather than empowered. sales. How to make money might be in our control, but how money goes out of our pocket might not be, as psychology is in cohesion with marketing.
