Dreams in my lap by Bhawna Vij Arora | Book review

Book review:

"Dreams in my lap"is a powerful collection of poems that instil a lot of emotions and soothe you at the same time. The linguistic choice of words would tickle your grey matters and completing it in one go will make you an evolved, enriched and well-read person. It just imparts a deep enthralling experience of what is wrong with our societies and is equally hard to pin down every day on the readers.

A few of the verses that really piqued me a lot:

💦"But wisdom reigns with the signs of aging, lose texture, lines of stress stiffens as she lets go of the accouterments to claim her trident: for she hides and fights until one day this bag full of distorted hieroglyphs, gloomy whispers, balky and stubborn becomes an emblem of a brave heart"

With age wisdom reigns but what if it is the materiality over perishable bodies that depicts the maturity from varied experiences. A lot of hurdles a woman passes through in every day of our lived experience: from trivial to bold it comes under all. Her wisdom, which becomes every woman in this case, is inculcated from distorted hieroglyphs, gloomy whispers, the balky and stubborn nature of obstacles and her strong dedication to never give up or lose faith in herself. She evokes an emblem of a brave heart.

💦"It tore and injured the anatomy of our marriage the ribs of trust, the spleen of unspoken assumptions, for betrayal, like a bullet not just pierces the faith, it shatters the sturdy bones of vows, the leaned limps of intimacy."

The post-marital instrumentality encourages a woman to seek the trust and support of her husband but she breaks bitterly when the delicate glass-like trust in her marriage smashes. Certain assumptions that lead to betrayal and intimacy of a relationship wither in pieces.

The poet has meticulously weaved the ups and downs of a woman's life or hidden turmoils. Her attempt to change the scenario for a woman is praiseworthy. The language used is evocative and heartwarming.

Overall, The book makes you ponder on many issues that are mostly ignored but need to discuss or change. A thought provoking read , worth reading, do grab it! I must say, any metropolitan woman who makes her own living, travels everyday, fights the long-rooted traditional integrations of a society which in itself is struggling, this collection becomes a handbook of a kind, which you can revisit, re-read, and keep it by your bedside. Simply put, this is my must-have collection if I am a woman!
