Everything Is Politics: Agree or Not?
“Ideas are great arrows, but there has to be a bow. And politics is the bow of idealism.”- Bill Moyers
Today I sat down and was wondering looking at the banners and these political leaders about the next leader. Nowadays when all political parties are trying their best to win the elections, it becomes so difficult to choose. Politics is such a crucial part of every person's life.
Aren't we leaders? Is politics only referred to political leaders or is much more than that? My mind started boggling with ample times I have been struck with situations where politics was a must.
Now our coming generation is hard to handle as per their advancement in technology and less tolerance power. Parents need to take extra classes or attend webinars to understand how to tackle their kids. Both scenarios whether parents have a single child or more children have their issues. Siblings throw tantrums or hit each other only to seek the attention of their parents. Is that politics? Yes, to show off one's importance to the other.
Daily issues continue but what matters the most is how politically their parents need to handle them. Parents do politics to maintain peace and decorum of the house. In school, teachers follow politics to attain goodwill and show off their capability in front of senior staff members. Students do notice every act of their ideals and follow where they feel or find it appropriate. So teachers are indirectly teaching politics to their students.
As we grow up(Teenagers) we start feeling attraction towards the opposite sex. Boosting, Invalid reasons to drink or smoke, indulging in sex, using abusive language and much more become a part of normal life. ( Scenario or need changes with place or society of kids) In my teaching career, I heard a student say that you are not worthy of becoming our friend as you don't drink. I was startled to hear the opinion of young kids. Kids feel that such drugs are part of boosting or showing off.
In adulthood, adults engage in relationships and use politics to seek their goals or false methods to impress their lovers that they are the right choice for them. Many times some adults cross their boundaries or forget the limits of decency to acclaim their love or dominance. Quite a few of them enrol themselves in jobs or high-paying IT sector and begin their journey of politics where the target to be achieved is the motto of their existence.
“Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to high sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.” Peter Drucker
If every person is playing politics then why do we keep on saying that politics is thirty? One person knows how to handle things on a small scale or large scale. The basic difference between political leaders and common people is that they are playing politics openly on a national level.
Let's change our perspective of politics and choose who can play the right or just politics and make India, a developed country.
Watching youngsters nowadays, I often feel that they don't care about politics anymore. It doesn't matter who is the ruler. And to an extent, they are right too. If you have a kind of dictator sitting on top, it makes hardly any difference what your political opinion is.
ReplyDeleteWell said Shifali. Politics is not restricted to governing a country, it does extend to our homes and offices too, the race for supremacy or how to run a a ship smoothly, everything has a bit of politics.
ReplyDeleteYes, Shefali there is politics everywhere. Especially nowadays in housing communities, clubs and in religious communities. Every one is outdoing the other. It worries me no end as to where our country is headed. We are going against our constitution and the present rulers declare that they are not accountable to anybody. Ambanis and Adanis are running the country.
ReplyDeleteLoved your analogy, how you have given examples from real life to demonstrate politics. Speaking of the younger generation, I wish they do something that benefits nation, even if it is politics!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that politics is all pervasive. It is found in homes, schools, offices, gatherings and in every scenario where human beings congregate and live together. I hope we can get the next generation to use politics in the right way so that they can choose their leaders wisely.
ReplyDeletevery true, politics is all-pervasive, but we are only bothered about the politics being played by the fools whom we call Netas. and I do agree with Tomichan Sir that youngsters nowadays are not bothered by politics at all.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this post I can conjure a quote, "Electoral politics is just daily manipulation on a national level" A custom quote from someone of the new generation ~ This theme is making me think a lot and you somehow captured that feeling!
ReplyDeleteYour reflections on the pervasive nature of politics in everyday life really resonate with me. It reminds me of a time when I was involved in organizing a community festival. Politics, in its many shades, was evident even there. We had to navigate through various interests and opinions to decide on themes, sponsors, and even the lineup of events. Each decision felt like a miniature political campaign, trying to balance the expectations and desires of different community groups while aiming for a successful event.
ReplyDeleteI particularly relate to your mention of the politics within family dynamics. Once, during a family reunion, I saw firsthand how negotiations and subtle maneuverings unfolded just to decide who would host the next gathering. It was a light-hearted moment, but it highlighted how inherent politics is in our interactions.
Your post beautifully illustrates how politics is not just about politicians and elections but is embedded in all our interactions, influencing how we manage relationships, careers, and even personal goals. It really broadens the perspective on what it means to engage in politics and how it shapes our daily lives. Recognizing this can indeed change how we perceive political actions and decisions, urging us to look for leaders who navigate these dynamics ethically and effectively. Thank you for such an insightful reflection!
This is so true. Politics exists in every community - our workplace, neighbourhood, school etc. Everything is politics, just in a smaller scale in comparison to the country’s bigger picture. Here’s to recognizing our responsibility and choosing to do our part in politics.
ReplyDeleteawareness is so important but again the question remains how many of them will make that extra effort to learn about the leaders. whats been said on left and right both and not just one side. here the parents' role plays such a crucial role. It's really important that parents also realise their duty, their responsibility.
ReplyDeleteThe word politics has moved from governance to every place in life-- school, college, home, office everywhere. It's become so common that we use it everywhere. And yet, while we do politics everywhere, we aren't worried about how the politics of our country is-- sad.
ReplyDeleteSo well explained, Shifali. Whether it is macro or micro level, politics is present in our every day lives.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing perspective towards the challenging topic of politics. I like to redefine the word Politics as Poly-Tricks. Many tricks are involved to maintain the ultimate motive.
ReplyDeleteAs everything starts from home, I agree that one point, say when a mother of three decides the daily menu favouring any one of her children is considered love but that's politics too. Then Schools, work areas, and it continues until we officially see a leader with authority.
I was totally amazed to read one point in the entire content about daughters-in-law of joint family, yes but I like to polish that term as a Creative way of handling the nouns. Just like queens dealt the challenges in and out of their kingdom. Excellently written!
