Relationship Status: it's complicated by Sonali Indu | Book review

Book review:

"Relationship Status" is an engrossing and humorous read. It reminds me of college life and how friends group together for studies, games, college fest, and even forming friendships that are relationships.

The story begins with the birthday party of Pallavi, where she introduces her friends to her new friend Aradhana. Every person had noticed Aradhana in college sitting alone, sad and lost in her thoughts. She had a breakup a year ago that made her shaken from within. At the same party, she meets Atharva and falls for him at first sight, but none of them admit their falling for each other. Both of them exchange numbers and try to be good friends.

Both of them could not resist thinking about each other. Soon they started meeting each other occasionally and became best friends. Both of them had a past that barred each of them from resisting their attraction for each other. Their group also has interesting characters with intermingling relationships that complicate the reading.

Throughout the read, I could not find out who is in love with whom. There were so many complications in the relationships, and a jealousy factor prevailed among them, as they wished to date more than one at a time. Their past or new crushes are popping up again and again. By the end, you find them parting and then patching up again. This goes on and on during their graduation and college fests or celebrations.

Reading about Atharva and Aradhana's love, infatuation, or friendship is intriguing. Their diverse persona makes them adorable and irritable characters at times. Will they ever find out the true meaning of love or end up turning only friends?

The author meticulously narrates the storyline with so many complications that it is hard to find till the last page about the status of their relationship. The depiction of side characters and friends is also well crafted. Her work reminds the reader of college friends and how they share or are jealous of their boyfriends or girlfriends. However, there were a few grammatical errors that could be rectified.

A few quotes from the book that piqued me:
🌸"A breakup is an ugly thing. You can’t accept it, you can’t ignore it; you just don’t know how to treat it; it doesn’t know how to treat you."

🌸"Love is like this. You can’t expect love to be normal and love is one of the craziest things."

The intimate scene of Atharva and Aradhana aroused a feeling that they would be together, but I was startled to find out their on-and-off relationship status. Throughout the narration, the author tries to depict today's scenario of college students who could not find out the difference between love and attraction. Despite making love with each other, they break up with each other, saying, I am still in love with my ex.

Overall, this book is a light, humorous read. I would recommend this book to all college life book lovers.
