Book review:
What distinguishes this series is the incorporation of chapters featuring the main couple's meddling parents, particularly the Queen, who has a history of interference. In this instalment, the Queen involves Agnes's mother and a friend, both unhappy in their own marriages, in her matchmaking efforts to bring Agnes and Andrew together. While well-intentioned, these chapters can feel somewhat distracting from the central romance.
The writing style is generally appealing, and I found myself entertained enough to read the book in one sitting. However, I didn't particularly warm to the hero. Despite his royal status, he doesn't come across as princely. At the outset, he purposefully behaves rudely toward Agnes, and later on, his behavior is attributed to snobbish cluelessness. I believe he needed more redemption and grander gestures, potentially making another character, Jones, a more appealing prospect.
I am grateful to NetGalley for providing me with this book, and I am offering this review voluntarily.
