I was searching for a good and thought-provoking collection of stories for my kids. My kids, like other kids, are fond of bedtime stories, and I usually try narrating them stories from ancient times. I prefer retelling stories that not only are funny but also impart a deep lesson in the minds of the reader. When I stumbled upon this book, it seemed to be apt for my search.

This omnibus is a collection of twenty-five astounding folktales from different states, regions, and cultures of the Indian subcontinent, giving readers a unique flavour of local daily life, customs, traditions, dressing, and food habits. Each tale has a flavour of rich tapestry from the great epics and mythology or the ancient history of this rich land.

This book shares stories from different regions and is divided into four sections:

• Amazing folktales from South Asia

• Fascinating folktales from India

• Favourite Indian folktales

• Funny Folktales

I used to read Amar Chitra Katha comics in my childhood, so this book was a new adaptation of them. Amar Chita Katha was founded in 1967 and is a household name in India. It is synonymous with the visual reinvention of quintessentially Indian stories from the great epics, mythology, history, literature, oral folktales, and many other sources.

Each story imparted a fresh perspective on life. I admired reading all the stories, but a few lie deep in my mind and heart. I liked:

• The Chain of Good Deeds

• Half Knowledge

• The Wise Four

• Stars in the pond

• Choice of Friends

The best part of this book is its spacing, size of letters, and beautiful illustrations of the stories. Children between the ages of 8 and 14 can easily understand the meaning of words and be allured by the depiction of stories. Little kids can imbibe the moral of the story by simply looking at the pictures. This book is in four volumes. I loved reading the first one, and I am eager to explore the others too.

The author has narrated the stories in an evocative and easy-to-understand manner. His unique storytelling style helps the reader understand the hidden lessons behind the stories.

Overall, this book is a sweet and light read for all kids. My kids loved hearing the stories and could relate to the stories as well. I would recommend this book to all.

"Health and wealth are invisible to the naked eye." I learnt about so many inspiring and thought-provoking stories shared by the author. He has marked references to many books that had been bestsellers in non-fiction. He has shared his invaluable research and the correlation between health and wealth in a vivid and evocative style.

I was startled by the fact of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:

• Diabetes and metabolic disease

• Heart Disease

• Neurodegenerative disorders

• Cancer

Each chapter begins with an inspiring quote and ends with motivating takeaways that keep the reader equipped with all the key points that are essential to be penned before understanding the next chapter. The strength of the book lies in its open references from many books and the quotes from their chapters.

What stands apart is the attention to balance—getting a charge out of life while remaining focused on your objectives. They expose normal fantasies and give instruments to construct propensities that last, whether it's unravelling a sustenance name or coming up with a savvy speculation technique.

Overall, this isn't simply one more self-improvement guide; it's a clear aid for anybody who needs to excel at flourishing both truly and monetarily. From the first page, the story pulled me into an intense and suspenseful journey of secrets, dreams, and revelations that kept you guessing at every turn.

The story begins with June, who is informed by her parents that she will live her dream of boarding after reaching California. She feels depressed about leaving her family and friends. But a thrill is alluring her to explore the world of her dreams. But deep inside, she does not want to leave for boarding. Her face betrays her many times.

June, Ava, Asher, and Austin, four high school friends, are thrown into chaos when their classmate Grace mysteriously and tragically passes away. What initially seems like a straightforward mystery soon takes a dark and eerie turn. Dreams start haunting the friends, revealing cryptic clues and unsettling secrets that challenge their understanding of reality.

The more grounded subjects add to the general kaleidoscope: off-the-record pieces of information, self-disclosure, and the force of writing. The pacing is perfect, never excessively sluggish or excessively quick all through. There isn't one second when we lose our grasp on anticipation.

What hangs out in An Author's Secret is the manner by which it investigates the subjects of pain, family, and the quest for reality. I was surprised to discover that Nandlal Kapur was, in fact, the grandfather of the author's late husband, Vijay Kapur , makes this story not only a historical narrative but also a personal and family legacy. 

 From his recruitment as a secret agent by the British to his transformation into a determined double agent, Nandlal's story is a nuanced and captivating tale of moral complexity.

 Nandlal Kapur, a young man lured by the promise of good pay and an adventurous life, joins this network of spies. But what unfolds is far from a glamorous life of intrigue; it’s a moral battle for Nandlal, as his love for his country conflicts with his role in aiding the oppressors.

The book deftly strikes a mix amongst intense emotional anxiety and nervousness as Kapur battles an increasing feelings of nationalism and task fidelity. The story vividly depicts the perils and ethical quandaries that commoners of India experienced throughout the country's struggle for freedom. 

This riveting account of heroism and spying provides an engrossing glimpse into the valiant metamorphosis of a less well-known fighter. A travelogue-like appearance is given to the novel by its utilization of trips, geographical locations, in-depth cultural descriptions, and other elements.

The author masterfully weaves historical context into the narrative, enriching the story with vivid descriptions of contemporary society and cultural norms. The writing is evocative, conjuring the sights, sounds, and emotions of a bygone era.

What sets this book apart is its thoughtful examination of the human cost of revoIution. Nandlal's story, passed down through family lore and lovingly recounted by Sengupta, is a testament to the countless individuals who risked everything for India's freedom, their contributions often overlooked or forgotten. 

The evocative dialogues incite patriotism in the heart of the readers. The story effectively illustrates Kapur's predicament of being torn between loyalty to the Raj and his love for his homeland through carefully chosen instances. Vimla's character is neatly sketched purely through Kapur's faint memories.

Based around the historical times of the 1920s, the author has maintained a breakneck pace of a thriller, mirroring the slick spy movies of our times. The plot thickens and changes geography, jumping from the forgotten bylanes of Calcutta to the haunts of the notorious Green Gang in Shanghai, from the golden pagodas of Burma to the tranquil tea rooms of Japan.

I loved the prose in parts, especially these lines- "A thick mist hung from the trees. Prito looked up. There was something ominous in the air, an impending gloom. It was as if deep sadness lurked in the leaves, mixed with grime, dust and fog. She shook her head. Her mother-in-law, God have mercy on the kind soul, had always told her to avoid negative thoughts as they heralded unpleasant events."

Through Nandlal's journey, we experience the suspense and thrills of espionage, but also the moral complexities and difficult choices that defined this pivotal moment in India's history.

Overall,  "The Silk Route Spy" is a mesmerizing portrayal of courage, sacrifice, and the enduring power of family legacy that leaves an indelible mark on our understanding of India's struggle for independence.  It's a grasping, fast-paced story. The book made me realise how little we know about the people who sacrificed their lives in silence during Independence. I loved reading it.

My take

The story is interesting with a speedy plot. There are numerous POVs, and I adored the person bends. The author's impeccable account makes the old ports of India, Jerusalem, Italy, and Rome distinctive. I adored the short parts, which made the story seriously fascinating. The tension and turns keep us stuck to the page.

Morjaria's careful grant and fastidious scrupulousness transport readers to a long-failed-to-remember age, summoning the rich embroidery of old India with reminiscent depictions that tempt the faculties. I had heard about meditation and its techniques to apply in your daily routine, but when I stumbled upon this book, my myths were removed. I could feel the real reason to practice yogic meditation.
