Mom's Story Basket: Nurturing Values through Mythological Stories by Archana Vashistha

Stories in Mom's Story Basket depict the minor but significant experiences that every child has, such as the excitement of a school picnic, the confusion of making a new friend, or the difficulty of sharing something special.

Each story helps children comprehend feelings they may not be able to articulate. Each tale is rooted in ancient myths but speaks directly to current events, from learning to be sorry to resolving disagreements among siblings. You'll meet Shiva, Durga, Ram, and Krishna, but not as distant gods.

Young minds can explore emotions, dilemmas, and values through their relatable characters when they arrive. Each tale incorporates a mythological moment that provides perspective and comfort around a straightforward incident, such as feeling excluded or being afraid on the first day of school.

It is not a lecture on moral science. It tells a story. That's the magic, too. Archana’s writing is like a parent’s hug—soft, safe, and steady. Her language is understandable and appropriate for her age, but it is never simplified. She trusts the child's (and the adult's) emotional intelligence rather than overwhelming them with information or jargon.

The narrative voice gives the impression of a mother speaking directly to her child after a long day. The flow is smooth. The author has created mythological tales that children can easily understand that are beautifully curated with a hint of simplicity and curiosity.

The author has ensured that children will learn about our rich Indian culture and mythology while reading or listening to this book, as well as some wonderful morals and values that will assist them in developing into good people.

Overall, the stories were enjoyable to me because a few of them reminded me of my mother and grandmother. It somehow sent me to the time when I used to be a child asking for bedtime stories. This book is highly recommended to parents and children, including preteens, as a way to teach children about our mythology and values while encouraging them to read.
