Book review:
This book is an exhilarating and adventurous tale filled with intriguing twists and turns. I found myself rapidly flipping through the pages, perched on the edge of my seat in anticipation as the characters navigated their next moves.
In the year 1927, Will embarks on his college journey, only to receive devastating news of his family's demise due to smallpox. His world crumbles, and to his astonishment, he awakens to the realization that he has been inexplicably propelled three years into the future. In this temporal leap, he loses his home and many of his possessions.
It's in this unfamiliar future that he crosses paths with Abbi, who reveals herself as a time traveller from the year 2022. She shares her ability to journey only into the past. Both plagued by fear, they make a pact to stay awake each night to prevent involuntary time travel. Despite their efforts, Will finds himself propelled further into the future, leaving Abbi stranded in the past. Their quest to reunite is fueled by the cryptic clues they've left for each other.
Stanton's storytelling prowess shines, as she thoughtfully incorporates period-specific elements to immerse readers in the era where Will finds himself. One detail that piqued my curiosity was Will's financial situation, which I wished had been explored further.
The narrative is enriched by meticulous research and attention to detail, evident in the wealth of historical and factual knowledge woven into the storyline. As you delve deeper into the narrative, you become inexorably absorbed, connecting with the characters and the world that surrounds them. Their emotions become your own.
In summation, this book is a treasure trove of captivating historical details, well-rounded characters, a dash of humour, and a compelling love story. It's a read that's truly worth your while—a captivating journey from start to finish.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Angie Stanton, the publishers at Xpresso Book Tours, and the NetGalley team for granting me the privilege of reading an advanced copy. This opportunity allowed me to relish the book in exchange for an honest review, an experience I hold dear.
