No Right Decision by Siddharth Maheshwari

No Right Decision by Siddharth Maheshwari

"No Right Decision" by Siddharth Maheshwari pulls you in right from the start. What makes it work isn't just the search for a killer, but watching how desperate these characters get to keep their secrets hidden. You end up sitting there second-guessing everyone because no one in the room is clean, and the threat of everything blowing up in their faces keeps the story moving fast.

Setting it at Rafflesia was a smart choice. It forces a totally random mix of people into the same space: a royal socialite, an artist, a chef, a young widow, a married couple, and a retired detective. They seem like they have nothing to do with each other, but every single one of them has something major to lose. As soon as the questions start getting asked, their cool exteriors fall apart, and it gets really hard to tell who’s actually the victim and who’s the suspect.

"If a tree does not know how to dance, the wind will teach it."

The book gives you just enough detail to start making wild guesses without giving the game away. Everyone has a reason to be guilty, and every new drop of information makes you rethink what you read two chapters ago. It honestly felt like trying to solve a puzzle while someone was secretly moving the pieces around.

You can't just sit back and read this passively. You end up taking mental notes, coming up with theories, and throwing them out fifty pages later. Right when you think you've figured it out, the story turns around and makes you feel like you missed something obvious.

The sketches inside the book were a great touch too. They gave the whole thing a neat, unique feel. I actually went to the book launch and found out Siddharth’s wife drew them, which made looking at them even cooler.

The note from the author at the end stuck with me as well. It talks about how we tend to put people in authority on pedestals and forget they make mistakes just like anyone else. Seeing Annie fail to figure out the case brought things down to earth and reminded you that nobody is invincible.

Overall, it is a smart murder mystery that keeps you guessing the whole way through.
