Book review : There's blood on your heart

 Book review :

"You are like your father".

The protagonist , Niharika or Nihar is daily haunted by her dreams that donot let her sleep. When she was 8years old ,she was abandoned by her parents and given to some other couple living in Australia. Her mother was brutally killed by her father and her aunt send her with the couple far away. Her father was sentenced.

A little girl who lost her parents is compulsorily allowed to live with her new parents. It was not at all easy and she could never leave the hope that one day her maternal father will come to take her back. Years passed but no one came. Instead she received an email from her aunt to visit India her home place as if her last wish.

Arguing with her only friend Rik and her parents , she decides to come India. Taking a decision to visit India was an attempt to come out of the guilt of ignoring her aunt or not replying her properly. But destiny has some other plans for her.

In India, she stays in a hotel in Mumbai. But her hallucinations don't leave her. She at times could not make out what's real and what's fake. Here she meets Panash who soon becomes her friend. She slowly shares with him her issues and her reason of coming India. But as she progresses to unravel the truth she finds herself more and more getting deep into the pit of hidden truths and dying persons mystery.

"You are the last one left. There's blood on your heart". - Lines from the book.

With series of deaths taking place around her, one after another, and a hundred different versions of the crime floating about in every nook and cranny of her past, would Nihar finally get to the truth? Would she know why her mother had to die, who killed her, and why all these years,  she kept following her everywhere? Why - what was it that she wished her only daughter to know?

The author has beautifully crafted the hallucinations and emotions of a daughter seeking for her parents love really touched me. The emotions of an abandoned daughter and how she tries to recover herself from depression and what path she takes to come out of the fear of someone haunting her is really spooky.

I loved reading this book and would recommend this book to all thriller book lovers.

Book review : Stepping Stone

Book review :

Stepping Stone by Liv Arnold weaves forgiveness and self-discovery into this emotional second-chance romance that one should don’t want to miss. It is a tender, sexy, fast-paced story with a well-drawn insight into mental health. A tough subject, compassionately addressed by a must-read romance author.

The book starts off with Jenna receiving a letter from her ex-husband that he wants custody of the dog. But Jenna got the dog after they separated. So she doesn't understand why he wants the dog. Her ex-husband Marco is fighting in the ring. Dealing with his career in the army and struggling with severe PTSD.

Jenna's family wants them back together. And I quite liked her family instantly. They are meddlesome, but loving at the same time. Then Jenna explains why they separated. Her husband visited a brothel. And once he figured out where he was, he left. I am not sure if he made out with someone there. But he didn't have sex. But in my mind he didn't do anything and just left.

It's got mystery, romance, and some personal growth for Jenna, along with a set of side characters in her family that are, in a word, nosy and a bit over-the-top but certainly well-meaning.

I really enjoyed the the very naturally LBGTQ+ rep woven into the story as well! & also there’s a little mystery subplot as well to keep us guessing which was fun to read!

Although I wished there was a bit more focus on the marriage as opposed to the Jenna's job but overall I really engaged.

I liked reading this book and would recommend this book to all LBGTQ book lovers. I am thankful to booksirens for gifting me this book in return of an honest review.

Book review : The Magic of Momentum

Book review :

The magic of momentum is in its power to propel us to places we couldn't or wouldn't go otherwise, and then to compound in that same direction. Most goals die when people run out of motivation and willpower. When motivation returns, new goals are born, and the cycle continues. Momentum is special because it doesn't depend on our thoughts or feelings to work.

Every breakthrough, whether it's earning more money, gaining more power and influence, gaining competence in a skill, or increasing your self-discipline, changes everything. Every new level one reach becomes powerful leverage to help one reach higher levels.

What We'll Learn:
- Why momentum is the most powerful force that affects your behavior at all times.
- Why momentum only exists across two time frames, and not in the time frame most people think it does.
- Why momentum works differently in our lives than in other areas such as sports (hint: it's the brain).
- How to instantly defeat the psychology of being in a rut.
- How to reverse negative momentum.
- How to create and sustain positive momentum.

Guise explains why this approach is preferrable to creating big goals that often go unmet because they require constant discipline and willpower, two things that are bound to fail on our worst days. Instead, if we concentrate on building positive momentum in the short term, by showing up each day and overcoming resistance, we can then create long-term momentum, which leads to lasting results. In Part 1, he explains the four principles of human momentum and in Part 2 he gives the reader strategies to reverse negative momentum, and create and sustain positive momentum.

I loved reading this book and would recommend this amazing book to all self help book lovers.

I am thankful to booksirens for gifting me this book in return of an honest review.

Book review : Dhup , chandani aur sayah rang

 Book review:

‘‘पक्षियों के भटकाव में है पेड़ का गिरना फिर-फिर उजड़ना फिर-फिर बसना उजड़ती ज़िंदगी का दर्द भी रहता है क्या महफ़ूज़ कहीं किसी क्लाउड पर अपलोड होकर!”

This book is a collection of beautifully crafted poems on ample subjects of life. They provide a profound knowledge and deep insight on today's scenario and our literature.

Many poems mesmerized me of hard times and the true reality of today's world. The way poems evoke the humanity in our souls is incredible.
The author has done a marvellous job in writing such engaging poems. One of His poems I want to share

I loved reading these marvellous poems and would recommend this book to all.

Book review : Healing the Anima

Book review :

The media called him the ‘bad boy’!

Producers called him irresponsible!

Gossip mongers called him Casanova!

But medical professionals termed it ‘Depression’!

Depression is a black dog that besets and pushes you from peak to nadir. In this troubled journey of ups and downs, meeting dead-end is almost a certainty. Many even fail to recover after hitting rock bottom.

Healing Anima is a story of blockbuster Bollywood superstar who lost his fame within a decade. It's a coming of age story and we accompany Siddharth Deshpande through every stage of his life. Although the book mainly deals with depression it also talks about suicide, domestic violence, abuse etc.

We have two parallel stories going on in this book, one of Rocky as he suffers depression while other of Siddharth Despande, an actor which is narrated through his diary. How these two story are connected is very interesting to read.

It's such an important read because it shows how media distorts our reality. It's also important with so many of us suffering mentally and either not knowing it, or not admitting it to even ourselves. It shows the lengths to which it can take over our lives and that there is hope. Thanks to the author for tackling the subject of mental illness.

Did the protagonist meet the same fate? Or did he catch a straw?

The plot is very well planned. I particularly liked the ending. It is quite emotional and hits hard. I would recommend this to those who are interested in realistic fiction.

Happy Reading!

Book review : At the doorstep to Moksha

 Book review:

In today's world everyone has desires and wants and somewhere in between humans has lost their true purposes. This book take us on the journey of Gururaj who has his quest to attain moksha.

The concern that dominates in the present day is that humankind seems to have chosen an increasingly retrogressive path in which it is dividing itself within narrow territorial ghettos, each built around its own parochial notions of identity. And as one struggles to avoid being submerged by this new reality, one cannot but help wonder whether the future that we will bequeath to our children is a dark and virulent one?

At the Doorstep to Moksha is Venkat’s light-hearted attempt to reflect on the evolving dichotomy between what it potentially can be and what, more often than not, it actually is. Adopting a retrospective view from the standpoint of one who is on the verge of liberation, it asks: “What is one being liberated from?”

I loved reading this book and would recommend this introspective book to all.

Happy Reading!

Book review: A Girl with five ties

Book review :

The book revolves around a protagonist Chloe, a Ph.D. student struggling to survive in a ruthless enviornment of academic bullying and exploitation.

Chloe is not a regular twenty five year old girl, she has secrets and a lot of them, the first secret being that she is dating two men at the same time and another being she hasn't eaten food properly from many years. Chloe's life is messy and she still has to get her PhD done. But with a dark past and a twisted and messy present, can Chloe's future be bright and happy?

"𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐞𝐦 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐨 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐭. 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬."

Her deepening crisis of mental and physical health and slowly uncover the traumas which lead her to develop a severe eating disorder. Can she overcome her inner demons and recover a healthy state of mind and body ? Will she find her right man?

The writing style is lucid and makes this book quite engaging to read. The way Chloe's character is written and we see the whole story from her pov, listening to her thoughts is just incredible and very effective.

I loved reading this book. I would recommend this book to teenagers mostly because they are the ones that are in the process of growing up, and they are being exposed to the harsh cruelties of this book. And without proper guidance, they might be guided improperly. But through this book, I believe they will be able to see the dos and don'ts of life.
